At the Sprott School of Business, students gain hands-on experience through a variety of experiential learning opportunities, including interactive classroom learning, consulting projects, case competitions, and even the opportunity to travel. These real-world experiences allow students to apply classroom knowledge in dynamic business environments, collaborate with industry professionals, and develop critical problem-solving skills. Our programs are designed to foster leadership, innovation, and practical insights that prepare students for successful careers.

Experiential Learning Courses and Opportunities at Sprott

BUSI 4117: Developing Creative Thinking

BUSI 4117 is a full year, one-credit course in which you work in close partnership with members of a remote community and participate in a field trip to that community.

Sprott Student Consulting Group

Working as consultants with real organizations, SSCG addresses business needs and opportunities such as market expansion, business planning, customer growth, and crisis management and recovery

BUSI 4111: Training and Development

A full year, 1.0 credit course, that involved a regular class session as well as a weekly 1.5-hour session of BUSI 2101 Introduction to Organizational Behaviour that will be taught by you, with a peer partner.

Sprott Social Impact Hub

The Sprott Social Impact Hub offers students hands on opportunities to tackle real-world social and environmental challenges through collaborations with non-profits, social enterprises, and community organizations.

Sprott Competes

Students are trained to compete in academic case competitions around the world, through this case-based learning program that focuses on real-world business case analysis, decision making, and presentation skills.

Sprott Student Investment Fund

The money is real, the experience is real, and the output is real hands-on money managing experience. The SSIF is an actively managed equity portfolio run by a select group of students at Sprott.

The Innovation Hub

Experiential Learning Assistant

The Experiential Learning Assistant, Hanna Kraus, offers support and guidance to help students navigate the wide range of experiential opportunities available during their studies at Carleton, including program details, registration assistance, and help in identifying the best opportunities to match students’ interests and goals. Committed to student success, the Experiential Learning Assistant ensures students can fully benefit from their learning experiences.

Employability Passport

The Sprott Employability Passport (Business Career Preparation Requirement) is a four-year mandatory career development program that equips Sprott students with the job-ready skills and awareness to find meaningful employment and career success. The Employability Passport program complements the academic knowledge and skills gained through your Undergraduate degree program.

Dual Degree Opportunity

Complete a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of International Business Management (CESEM). Students in the Dual Degree Program complete two years of study at the Sprott School of Business and two years at the NEOMA Business School in France. This opportunity is available to Bachelor of Commerce students.
