Make a Positive Impact

Our world today is characterized by deep transformation and wicked challenges that call for new ways of thinking, working and connecting with one another. Business has a vital role to play in solving the world’s pressing challenges and making a positive impact in the communities in which they operate.

Here at the Sprott School of Business, students are empowered both in and outside of the classroom to create and participate in opportunities to make a difference in the world.

in the course Developing Creative Thinking, Sprott students partner with students in other faculties at Carleton and community partners to develop solutions to challenges, such as access to clean water in rural Tanzania, lack of sport and recreation opportunities in remote communities, sustainable community development in Canada’s North, and food insecurity in Ottawa.

Build Valuable Experience While You Learn

Sprott students have many opportunities to learn about and engage with key issues that are shaping the way that prominent businesses and organizations in the world operate in modern society. The following are just some of examples of the exceptional experiential learning opportunities at Sprott.

Project-Based Service Learning

Sprott MBA and undergraduate students work on real projects for clients from business and the community as members of the Sprott Student Consulting Group. Students also help to manage the consulting enterprise in roles that include human resources and business development.

Sprott Student Investment Fund

Students interested in careers in investment management can gain real money-management experience and learn investment strategies through the Sprott Student Investment Fund (SSIF). The SSIF is an investment portfolio valued at over $1.5 million. All members of the fund contribute to the analysis process, helping to assemble the ideal portfolio that safely and wisely grows the fund’s capital.

The Nicol Building

Located in the heart of Carleton’s campus, we proudly opened the doors to our new home in September 2021. The award-winning Nicol Building serves as the front door to the university and a place where students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community can engage, share ideas and find creative solutions to the challenges facing business and society. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the spaces and flow of the 115,000-square-foot facility delivers an inspiring and collaborative learning environment in which business students can pursue their dreams.
