MFin Admissions
MFin Admissions Requirements
- Four-year Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, data science, computer science, engineering, or other quantitatively oriented program with a cumulative grade point average of “B” which is the equivalent of 8.0/12 on Carleton’s scale. The CGPA calculation will be based on all four years of study.
- Proficiency in English
- Students with two or more years of relevant financial industry work experience may apply to be exempted from the internship once in program.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- Passed CFA Level 1 exam;
- Passed CPA Common Final Examination;
- Obtained designations in risk management (FRM, PRM, etc); or
- Obtained actuarial designation (ACIA, FCIA, etc)
Required Documents
Applicants must provide the following documents:
- Two letters of reference (at least 1 academic reference)
- A one-page Statement of Intent
- A copy of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended
- A resume
- If applicable, a copy of your English-language test results
Application Deadlines
Domestic Students
Apply no later than May 1 for September entry.
- Only completed applications will be considered.
- Applications are considered on a rolling basis for as long as space remains.
International Students
Apply no later than March 1 for September entry.
- Applications are considered on a rolling basis for as long as space remains
- Only completed applications will be considered.
- International candidates are encouraged to submit their applications early enough to allow sufficient time to secure Student Visas if offered admission.

Tuition and other fees are based on the number of terms of study and the residency status of the applicant—i.e., domestic (Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada) or international. To estimate the fees that will apply to you, please use Carleton’s Fee Estimator* and keep the following in mind:
- The MFin is a full-time program and subject to full-time fees.
- The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is mandatory for international students, and covers the cost of physician/hospital medical services for students and their immediate families.
