And that’s why Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business has launched a different kind of business degree for individuals who like to walk off the beaten path to discover new areas of opportunity.  

The Bachelor of Entrepreneurship (BEnt) is a three-year experiential and specialized degree for tomorrow’s innovators, entrepreneurs and changemakers. With the BEnt’s focus on venture creation, business growth and digital opportunity, graduate ready to build, launch, lead and scale ventures in Canada’s dynamic and globally connected economy.

BEnt: A Different Kind of Business Degree

• Canada’s only Bachelor of Entrepreneurship. At other Canadian universities, entrepreneurship is a major, minor or concentration inside a four-year BCom or BBA. At Carleton, it’s the whole degree.
• Learn entrepreneurship by living it. Apply what you are learning in real-time through the BEnt project courses.
• It’s a full business degree. Over 80 per cent of the core courses are designed for entrepreneurs, covering accounting, business law, finance, marketing, management, selling, AI and digital transformation.
• Three years, not four. Finish a year sooner, pay one less year of tuition and start working a year earlier.
• Mentorship built in. A structured mentorship program pairs you with entrepreneurs and business leaders.
• Summer internships in Ottawa’s startup community. Through Sprott’s partnership with Invest Ottawa, you can spend your summers working with Ottawa’s entrepreneurs who need help growing their companies.
• You don‘t have to do it alone. Work together with a cohort of motivated and passionate fellow BEnt students.
• Intensive learning environment. Build, test, fail, adapt and get to market faster.

Courses and Curriculum

Carleton’s Bachelor of Entrepreneurship curriculum is specialized for entrepreneurs. The program’s core courses emphasize hands-on learning and build essential skills for entrepreneurs in areas such as accounting, finance, business design, marketing, selling, business law, AI, digital transformation and innovation. The Entrepreneurship Project I, II and III courses are highly experiential. Students apply what they are learning to developing or growing a venture, and each year builds on the work done the year before.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make up about 98 per cent of Canadian businesses and employ about 64 per cent of private-sector workers. Carleton’s Bachelor of Entrepreneurship develops an entrepreneurial mindset and a transferable skillset for that economy.
