BIB Culture and Society Courses
Acceptable Culture and Society Credits for BIB Students
BIB students who successfully meet some or all of the language requirements through testing in first year will choose alternate credits in culture and society approved by Sprott to substitute for the applicable number of language credits based on their placement.
Culture and society credits are met through complimentary non-language courses that will equip you with the tools to operate in the culture and society of your selected year abroad destination.
Selecting your culture and society courses
- Confirm your required number of credits in culture and society. This number must reflect the number of your exempt language credits as determined by your placement in first year (full or partial test-out)
- Choose from the following list of pre-approved courses
- You are also encouraged to explore other culture and society courses to support your learning. To have a different course pre-approved, please contact your Sprott Program Advisor at bib@sprott.carleton.ca
- You may also choose to complete courses in another pre-approved language to a maximum of 2.0 credits towards your culture and society credits. Please contact your Program Advisor to have your selected language pre-approved.
- You may also choose to complete an additional BIB Language (French, Spanish, German, Japanese, or Mandarin). In this case, please confirm your plans with your Program Advisor and complete the language placement process for your second language. To complete a second BIB language successfully, you must complete the BIB Language requirements in that language as outlined in the Undergraduate Calendar.
- Note that you may complete your culture and society credits prior to, during, and following your Year Abroad
