Area of Research: Marketing
Narmin is interested in learning how to motivate consumers to behave in a sustainable manner. In particular she is investigating how social normative appeals from different message sources can effectively influence adoption of pro-environmental behavior. Her dissertation is titled “Whose line is it anyway? Message source characteristics and appeal type effectiveness.”
Concurrently, she is working on sustainability pedagogy and has designed a framework for teaching sustainability through responsible food choices. Towards that end, she is co-authoring a paper with Dr. Leighann Neilson and Dr. Aron Darmody, which is in the final stages of review at the Journal of Marketing Education. Furthermore, her video urging consumption of suboptimal food to fight climate change, won her first place in the GRADflix 2021 competition. Currently, she is also working on a project on effectiveness of emoji in driving engagement, in collaboration with Dr. Lindsay McShane, Dr. Qi Deng and Dr. Dora Wang.
Narmin has presented her research at the IVEY Sustainability Conference, the Society for Consumer Psychology and the 46th Annual Macromarketing Conference. She also participated as a poster presenter and as a speaker showcasing student endeavors on sustainability at the Sprott School of Business. Furthermore, she serves as a Sustainability Champion at Sprott. Her op-ed on fighting climate change, initially published in the Daily Star, was later picked up by the Straits Times. She also served as a reviewer for the Conference on Historical Analysis and Research in Marketing (CHARM).
Narmin is two-time recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and has received support from the Hamlin Graduate Bursary, Hamlin Graduate Fellowship and Bader Student Travel Award.
Narmin has ten years of teaching and corporate experience spanning the role of a brand manager at Reckitt Benckiser Bangladesh Ltd. and Business Analyst at SAP Asia, Singapore.
