Dr. Angela Dionisi is an Associate Professor of Management and the Director of the Centre for Research on Inclusion at Work (CRIW), at the Sprott School of Business. Prior to joining Carleton, Dr. Dionisi earned both her PhD and MSc in Management (Organizational Behaviour) from the Smith School of Business, Queen’s University. Her research focuses broadly on the areas of workplace mistreatment and leadership. Much of her research is focused on the impact of workplace sexual harassment on targets, and those with close relationships to them. She is particularly concerned with how negative workplace dynamics may uniquely affect historically underserved groups. Most recently, she has been expanding her research area to examine workplace mistreatment encountered by individuals living with disabilities. Moreover, Dr. Dionisi conducts research on the predictors (e.g., mental health; familial dynamics and demands) of destructive leadership behaviour. Through her research she aims to generate knowledge that can be used to foster healthier, more inclusive workplace environments.

Dr. Dionisi is a highly awarded scholar with numerous notable (A-A+ ranking) publications in her field. Her work has been featured in outlets such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and Leadership Quarterly. She is also a highly respected expert contributing to the development of major government policies (such as the Canadian Senate Policy on Prevention and Resolution of Harassment in the Workplace), and, is routinely sought-out by the media and public interest groups to speak about her research (such as the Federal Youth Network in partnership with the Canada School of Public Service to educate public servants across Canada). Moreover, she is an expert contributor for Psychology Today with articles that educate and inform readers under the title: “(Un)Well at Work: Exploring factors that can help and hinder your well-being, happiness, and success on the job.”

Dr. Dionisi has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a 2019 Research Achievement Award at Carleton University, as well as multiple Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grants. Her SSHRC Insight Development Grant is being used to support a collection of projects aimed at examining the intersection between workplace sexual harassment and the family—both the family-based consequences of sexual harassment, and the family as a possible point of intervention. Her most recent SSHRC Insight Grant is supporting research investigating the unique ways that workplace mistreatment materializes for people with disabilities, as well as the factors that impact how those with disabilities respond to these experiences (for example, barriers and facilitators to speaking up about workplace mistreatment). Dr. Dionisi seeks to produce research that can be used to counteract all forms of workplace mistreatment, speaks to the lived experiences of diverse employees, and encourages inclusion in our workplaces.

Dr. Dionisi is not currently accepting new MSc/PhD students.
