- I don’t have a business idea. Can I still enrol in the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship?
- Yes! You don’t need a business idea to enrol in the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship. In first year, you work with classmates to find a problem worth solving and develop ideas and ventures together.
- Do I have to start my own company?
- No. You develop a venture through the Entrepreneurship Project, but the degree prepares you for a range of paths: founding a company, leading a family business, working in a growing SME, consulting, or driving innovation inside a larger organization.
- Is the BEnt a real business degree?
- Yes. The BEnt covers accounting, entrepreneurial finance, business law, marketing, selling, organizational behaviour, digital transformation and AI. The difference from a BCom is not that it has less business content. It is that you learn it by applying it to a venture you are building.
- How does Carleton’s Bachelor of Entrepreneurship differ from the Bachelor of Commerce concentration in Entrepreneurship?
- Carleton’s Bachelor of Entrepreneurship is a three-year, highly experiential and specialized business degree. The program’s core courses focus on applied learning and build essential skills for entrepreneurs in areas such as business design, finance, marketing, selling, AI, digital transformation and innovation. For example, the program’s accounting and finance courses give you a foundational level of understanding so you can speak the language of investors and funders. The BEnt has no Advanced Functions requirement, and students have access to a mentorship program and summer internships through Invest Ottawa. BEnt students can also add an optional Sprott stream.
- Carleton’s Bachelor of Commerce Entrepreneurship concentration is a four-year honours business degree. Courses cover core business functions in more depth and include specialized courses in entrepreneurship. In the BCom Entrepreneurship concentration, students have the flexibility to add co-op and study abroad, and to explore academic interests through electives, minors and streams. The BCom requires math for admission.
- How is Carleton’s BEnt different from entrepreneurship programs at other Canadian universities?
- Carleton offers Canada’s only Bachelor of Entrepreneurship. At other Canadian universities, entrepreneurship is offered as a major, minor or concentration within a four-year BCom or BBA, where general business comes first.
- Does the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship include co-op?
- No, the BEnt does not include co-op. Students can instead complete summer internships with Ottawa entrepreneurs and growing companies through Sprott’s direct partnership with Invest Ottawa.
- How much does the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship cost?
- Tuition for domestic students is estimated at $15,000 per year, or $45,000 for the full three-year degree. Tuition for international students is estimated at $45,000 per year.
