MBA Internship Reflections: Tapas Gupta

This Fall, MBA candidate Tapas Gupta completed his MBA internship with Gastops, the world’s leading provider of intelligent condition monitoring solutions used in aerospace, defence, energy, marine and industrial applications. Tapas recently shared his reflections from his internship experience.

What have you gained from your internship?

From my internship, I have garnered not only professional Canadian experience but also a wealth of personal and technical growth. The exposure to the company’s inner workings and industry background has equipped me with invaluable knowledge and insights, providing a practical extension to my academic foundation. This experience has been instrumental in bridging theoretical learning with real-world applications.

What have you enjoyed the most from your internship?

The most enjoyable aspect of my internship was navigating the intricacies of market segment assessment. I found great satisfaction in unraveling the complexities involved in reaching optimal solutions, even when faced with challenging variables. Engaging in interviews with internal and external customers added another layer of depth to my experience, offering a unique perspective on the company’s dynamics and opportunities for improvement. It was a fascinating journey that not only tested my analytical abilities but also enhanced my communication skills.

What did you learn about yourself during this time?

Throughout the internship, I discovered a multifaceted set of skills within myself. From honing research and analytical skills essential for detailed market analysis to developing efficient time management strategies to meet tight deadlines, I have found a well-rounded skill set evolving. The experience has illuminated my capacity to comprehend complex information swiftly and articulate well-founded conclusions. This self-awareness has been pivotal in shaping my professional identity and instilling confidence in my ability to tackle diverse challenges.

Has your internship experience influenced your career goals?

Absolutely. The fusion of my Mechanical Engineering background with Finance experience during the internship has been a transformative catalyst. It has not only added a unique dimension to my skill set but has also broadened my career horizons. The exposure to interdisciplinary tasks has ignited a passion for exploring further opportunities in this field. I am now more open and enthusiastic about gaining additional experience in this domain, leveraging the knowledge and skills acquired during the internship. The experience has solidified my commitment to a career that seamlessly integrates my academic foundation with practical expertise, creating a path forward that aligns with my aspirations and capabilities.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to express my gratitude for the incredibly positive experience I’ve had during this internship. The support and guidance provided by the Product Managers and the Product Management Lead have been instrumental in making this journey not only educational but also enjoyable. Their mentorship has played a crucial role in my professional development, and I truly appreciate the collaborative and nurturing environment they have fostered.

My time in this internship has deepened my understanding of the industry, and it has affirmed my keen interest in pursuing a career in this field. The challenges and learning opportunities have fueled my excitement for the possibilities that lie ahead. I am genuinely looking forward to incorporating the knowledge and skills gained into my future career endeavors.
