Can the online MBA Math course or GMAT requirement be waived?

Candidates must meet either the online MBA Math course criteria or the GMAT. Meeting either the GMAT or MBA Math criteria is mandatory and will not be waived regardless of cumulative grade point average, years of professional experience or number of degrees.

Is it acceptable to take the GRE exam in the place of the GMAT exam?

Yes, we will accept the GRE in the place of the GMAT criteria so long as the GRE score is equivalent to the minimum requirement of 550 on the GMAT. I already have a master’s degree/PhD, is the online MBA Math course or GMAT still required?

While we appreciate your background, meeting the MBA Math course or GMAT criteria is a mandatory admission criteria that must be fulfilled in order to be considered for the Sprott MBA program.

Is there any advice on how to prepare for the GMAT?

There are private companies that assist students with preparing for the GMAT. A good starting point is to refer to www.mba.com for further information.

What is the institution code for sending the GMAT score report to the university?

Code for full-time study is 36KNQ57.

What is the institution code for sending the GRE score report to the university?

Code for full or part-time study is 0854 with Program Code Business – other (4399).

Admissions Requirements

What are the basic minimum requirements I need?

A minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience, completion of the self-paced online MBA Math course with a minimum of 80% in each module and 80% overall, or a minimum GMAT score of 550 overall or equivalent GRE score. A 4-year undergraduate degree, in any discipline, with a cumulative grade point average over all four years of a “B”, or equivalent. Two professional recommendations from current or past superiors are also required. You many also be required to meet the minimum Language Proficiency criteria. If you are shortlisted, you may be invited to participate in a video interview.

When calculating the grade point average, are the last two years of coursework taken into consideration, or are all courses over four years used in the calculation?

To determine if a candidate meets the CGPA requirement, all four years of study and all courses are taken into account when calculating the cumulative grade point average.

I have a 3-year degree, may I still be considered for the Sprott MBA program?

The degree can be either in the form of a four-year honors program or a three-year program plus one additional year of study in any discipline at the university-level.

On a case by case basis, we may consider those Domestic applicants who possess a 3-year degree as long as they possess at least ten years of progressive, professional experience.

I am a student from India and I have a 3-year undergraduate degree, can I still apply?

We will only consider a student from India with a 3-year undergraduate degree if the degree is from an institution accredited by either AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA. There are no exceptions to the criteria.

I do not have an undergraduate degree in the area of Business, can I still be considered for the Sprott MBA?

A degree in almost any discipline will be considered, provided all other admission requirements are met.

Do I provide academic or professional recommendations?

Candidates for the Professional MBA Program must provide two professional recommendations from current or past superiors. Recommendations from colleagues can not be substituted.

What are the application deadline dates?

If I send my documents by email, can you assess if I am eligible to apply for the program?

Unfortunately, due to the volume of applicants, we do not provide a pre-assessment of documents until we receive a formal application. Please refer to the website for information on admission criteria.

How and when am I notified of the status of my application?

Complete applications for both domestic and international students are processed on a rolling basis. You will be notified by email once a decision is made.

International Student Applications and English Proficiency

I am an International candidate and my country of origin is an English speaking country. Why do I still have to provide proof of English Proficiency?

This is a policy set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies that we have to abide by.

If your first language is not English, you must prove your language proficiency by:

presenting one of the official Language Proficiency (ESL) test scores;

showing that you have completed ESLA 1900 or ESLA 1905 at Carleton University with a final grade of B- or higher; or

presenting official certification (transcripts) that you have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree within the past three years in a university in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom or any country in which the primary language is English, where the language of instruction in the relevant educational institution was English, and the language of instruction in your most recently completed undergraduate or graduate degree was English.

Q. If I have not met the English proficiency requirement, can I receive a conditional acceptance?

We do not provide conditional acceptance with respect to admission criteria. Only those applications that meet all admission criteria will be considered for admission, and this includes the English proficiency requirement.

I am an international student who completed my degree in the UK/USA, do I still need to provide English proficiency scores?

If your first language is not English, you must prove your language proficiency by:

Is it possible to complete the Sprott MBA program online?

No, not at this time. All courses are offered on Carleton University’s campus in Ottawa, Canada.

What are the entry points for the Professional MBA program?

Students are admitted for entry each September and proceed through the program as a cohort. There is no Winter or Spring/Summer entry.

What is the delivery structure of courses?

Courses will be delivered in an intensive weekend format with classes scheduled on every second Friday and Saturday throughout the 16-month program.

Are concentrations within the Professional MBA offered?

Concentrations are not offered however, elective courses are utilized to provide students with a blend of courses currently in demand from the marketplace.

What is the total tuition cost for the program?

What is the duration of the program?

The full-time program is designed to be completed in 16 months, beginning in September in one year and completing in December of the next.
