John Nelson is the Senior External Relations Officer in the Sprott School of Business. Reporting to the Dean, John coordinates and leads the teams responsible for the communications, alumni relations, career services and externals relations functions within the School. He previously served as International Outreach Manager in Carleton International and as Manager of Carleton’s International Student Services Office, and brings to his new portfolio extensive knowledge of international academic and research partnerships, student engagement and mobility programs, intercultural education and internationalization agendas in the post-secondary sector. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering and is a Master’s candidate in Carleton’s Technology Innovation Management program.
John has coordinated mentoring, orientation and student services teams at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, and has extensive experience in student recruitment, engagement, orientation, advising and retention. He has accompanied a number of student teams to Costa Rica, Mexico and China through the Alternative Spring Break and China Study Tour programs, and continues to be actively involved in mentoring students, and providing connections for students and researchers interested in conducting research, academic or professional placements abroad.
