Full-time and Part-time Admission Requirements
- Bachelor and Masters degree in business or a related field with a minimum average of A- (i.e. 80%)
- GMAT score of 600
- Proficiency in English Test (please see below)
- A number of years of work experience is desirable
- Basic knowledge of statistics and at least two of the following areas of management:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Information Systems
- International Business
- Management
- Marketing
- Supply Chain Management
- Admission into the PhD program will be judged primarily on the applicant’s ability to undertake research successfully and their prospects for completion of the program.

*Note on official documents: At the application stage, we accept ‘unofficial’ documents. Official documents are only required if you are offered admission.
Transcripts
- Copies of your academic transcript(s) and degree certificate(s) from each post-secondary institution that you attended (past and/or current), showing all courses and marks are required.
- If the transcript does not indicate that a degree has been conferred, a copy of the degree certificate (diploma) will also need to be uploaded.
- Transcript(s) must be in the original language and include a certified translation if the transcript is not in English. Note: Transcripts from Canadian institutions are exempt from translation requirements.
- Current Carleton University students can request an unofficial transcript through Carleton Central which will be sent to your Carleton email account electronically.

English Language Proficiency Test
For admission into the PhD in Management program, you will need to demonstrate that your knowledge and use of English are strong enough for graduate studies at an English-language university. Applicants who present their most recent degree and transcripts from a Canadian institution are exempt from language proficiency requirements.
If your first language is not English, please see the university requirements for students with English as a Second Language to confirm if you are required to submit an English Language Proficiency Test Score with your application.
Statement of Intent
- The Statement of Intent consists of 8 mandatory questions. Only applications that provide answers to these questions will be considered by the Admissions Committee.
- The total length should not exceed 5 pages single-spaced.
- The questions can be found in the Instructions section of the online application form in Carleton 360.
Resumé/CV
- A CV/Resumé for your application for admission should be a one or two page concise summary of your skills, experience and education.
- A CV/Resumé is essentially your full academic and professional profile. It should include a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honours, affiliations and other details.
GMAT OR GRE Test Scores
GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) – A minimum score of 600 is required to apply for the Sprott PhD.
- The GMAT score is valid for five years. If your GMAT score is more than five years old at the time of application you must re-take the GMAT test.
- We strongly encourage applicants to register as quickly as possible with the GMAT test centre as it can take several weeks to receive test scores.
- The Sprott School of Business requires that ALL PhD applicants submit GMAT test scores, regardless of degrees attained or years of professional work experience.

- Official scores are mailed to the university by the organization that administers the GMAT.
- An equivalent GRE (Graduate Record Exam) score can substitute for the GMAT. Our Institution Code is 0854. To calculate the GMAT equivalent of your GRE score, you can use the GRE Comparison Tool for Business Schools.
References
- All applications must be supported by letters of recommendation from at least two faculty members with whom the candidate has studied, who are in a position to assess his/her potential for graduate studies and research.
- References from non-academic supervisors are not ordinarily acceptable.

Notice of Acceptance
Complete applications for both domestic and international students will be processed in the early part of the year. A PhD Admissions Committee consisting of faculty members reviews applications. You will be notified in writing in early Spring once a decision is made.
