Writing Wednesdays – Week 4
Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
- Virtual event
- Zoom meeting link
Writing stalls not from a lack of ideas, but from a lack of protected, structured time. Writing Wednesday
gives faculty and graduate students a standing weekly hour to write side by side, set weekly goals, and
build sustained momentum on any writing project, together.
Why twelve weeks? The timeframe is deliberate, drawn from the field-tested model behind Wendy Laura
Belcher’s Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks, widely used in academic writing programs.
Twelve consecutive weeks is long enough to carry a project through its full arc, from argument to
submission, and to build a durable weekly writing habit, while remaining short enough to sustain
motivation, focus, and momentum to the finish line.
PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
- Who: Open to all research faculty (any rank) and research graduate students (any stage).
- What to bring: Any writing project — grant applications, manuscripts, dissertation or thesis
chapters, reports. - When: Every Wednesday for 12 weeks starting September 30th. Sessions run 90 minutes from
12:00-1:30pm. - Where: NI 6010
- Format: In person or virtual by session (no hybrid) — three sessions (weeks 4, 8, 12) run virtualonly to accommodate travel and fieldwork.
- Structure: A loose weekly rhythm shaped by the 12-week arc, brief goal-setting, a focused writing
block, and a short progress check-in, with milestones and pace defined together as a group. No
workshops, no manuscript feedback, just protected, supported writing time. - Commitment: Set a personal 12-week writing goal, attend consistently, and protect quiet focus for
fellow writers in the room. - Sponsored by: The Sprott Research Development Forum.
