Your MBA internship provides you with the opportunity to apply the business skills and knowledge you’ve learned as an MBA student. You’ll gain real-world experience by analyzing researched information, developing your managerial skills and practicing your decision making and problem solving skills.
You’ll enroll in the MBA Internship course (BUSI 5999) as a full-time student in the summer term. This term is subject to full-time tuition fees as the MBA Internship Program is a mandatory academic requirement for full-time students with less than two years of professional management experience. There is also some flexibility in the MBA Internship cycle for a Winter internship in the second year instead of a Summer internship.
You’ll be expected to meet with the MBA Internship Coordinator to discuss resume, experience, concentration and career aspirations. The MBA Internship Coordinator will also assist you with career skills, offer career-related advice and can help you in your internship search, but it is your responsibility to secure your own internship placement. You’re encouraged to approach organizations with which you would like to work as well as capitalize on the opportunities presented to you by the Graduate Career & Internship Coordinator.
Career Workshops, mandatory for all students who require an internship, will be held throughout the fall and winter terms in first year.
Career activities are mainly held on Fridays, be sure to keep that in mind when planning your schedule.
A typical MBA internship is 16 weeks in length and consists of full-time hours. MBA Internships can be paid or unpaid and compensation for internship placements varies and depends on the organization and student’s experience.
Each internship must be approved by the Graduate Career & Internship Coordinator.A more detailed process for internship approval is available on CULearn.
Students must successfully complete the internship and respective course report in order to graduate from the MBA program.
Please note that International students who wish to participate in a co-op or internship program in Canada, must apply for a work permit as well as a study permit. For more information, please visit the Citizenship and Immigration Centre Canada website.
