Brian Mitchell

Dr. Brian Mitchell loves learning and sharing his knowledge of management with others. 

With over 30 years of diverse experience planning and delivering both capital and corporate projects, and managing their multi-disciplinary teams, he has learned a lot about people and how to get things done. He has been fortunate to build buildings while building relationships in the process. He has also built the internal capabilities of private and public sector organizations. As National Practice Manager – aka “Chief PM Knowledge Officer” for Pivotal Projects, he led the practice initiatives including developing and supporting training, updating the PM Delivery Methodology, and project reviews. As a PM Best Practices consultant with the Science and Parliamentary Infrastructure Branch, he has been involved in increasing the organizational project management maturity and developing and deploying PM Best Practices through teaching and training, facilitating organizational learning, and establishing corporate knowledge structures by both presenting to the PM community and creating an intranet knowledge resources. With Tiree, he provides PM Training, is a mentor for PMs, and serves on the internal Centres of Excellence for Project Controls and Risk Management. In addition, he has spoken and presented to various public sector organizations, at numerous industry and academic conferences in both North America and Europe.

In late 2020, he successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on “The Learning Economy, Innovation, and ICT-influenced Productivity: International comparison between the European Union and North America.” This work examined Forms of Work Organization, Organizational Learning, and Innovation in the EU and North America at the Doctoral School of Management and Business Administration Sciences at Szent István (St. Stephen’s) University in Gödöllő, Hungary. He was humbled to be awarded summa cum laude for his doctoral research. He earned his Master’s Degree in Project Management (MPM) from the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) and upon graduation was honoured to be recognized with the Dean’s Award of Excellence.

Giving back to the PM Community, he is teaching and developing courses in Project Management at Algonquin College in Ottawa, is teaching project management courses at the Eric Sprott School of Business at Carleton University, has participated in Roundtable discussions with the Ontario Association of Architects, and has given guest lectures at Algonquin College Graduate Certificate Courses.
