The Detour is the Destination: Thriving on a Non-Linear Career Path
What if your career’s setbacks are actually your greatest opportunities? Join Andrew Schagen (B.Eng 2012, M.A.Sc 2018, PMBA 2022) for an inspiring story about navigating a non-linear career path, from a “blessing in disguise” layoff to walking away from a safe corporate job to build a life by design. This story offers a powerful roadmap for anyone seeking to build a career with intention. We will explore turning unexpected detours into defining moments, the MBA’s real value, and how to find the courage to chart a course that is authentically your own.
Speaker: Andrew Schagen
Andrew Schagen is the president and founder of Leverde, a boutique consulting firm that focuses on improving transportation through technology, strategy, and investment, but his story was forged long before the boardroom. His path has been a winding road of midnight shifts, pivotal layoffs, and hard-earned lessons in resilience. A proud triple-alumnus of Carleton University (B.Eng, M.A.Sc, MBA), Andrew credits the school for being a true partner in his success – from an admissions staff willing to help a mature student return to academia, to the MBA cohort that showed him the unstoppable power of a team.
