BIB Language Selection

Students in the BIB program are required to specialize in one of the following languages: French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, or Spanish. Please complete this form to formally declare your BIB language and state your intended pathway for completing the language requirement, based on your proficiency level in your selected language.

Next Steps

1. If your selected BIB language is Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, or German, please get started by completing the online Language Background Questionnaire for your selected language. Following this step, you will receive an email from the School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SlaLS) indicating your level of study and or indicating if an online placement test is required to determine your level of study/proficiency.

If your selected language is French, please complete the Online Placement Questionnaire, to determine your language proficiency. Following this assessment, you will receive an email from the French Department indicating your level of study/proficiency.

2. Communicate the results of your language placement or assessment to your Sprott First Year Student Advisor at rhonda.kelly@carleton.ca

3. With the help of your advisor, finalize your first-year language course registration requirements for both Fall and Winter terms ahead of the registration period.
