2026 Sprott Alumni Award Recipients
Cedric Osagie, BCom/24
Sprott Alumni Award: Early Achievement
Awarded to a Carleton University graduate of a bachelor’s degree in business who received their degree within the last 10 years and has achieved significant professional accomplishments since graduation.
Cedric Osagie took the express lane to success. In fact, he only graduated two years ago with a Bachelor of Commerce and a concentration in marketing. He is already a two-time founder and launched his last startup, thirdspace, while at Sprott with support from the Innovation Hub. Thirdspace, an app that facilitates friendships and in-person connections across university and college campuses, hit the ground running. It raised a $100,000 angel round from US investors, attained more than 70 million views, 20,000 downloads and tripled its monthly active users in the three months before getting acquired by Mecka AI – a robotics startup that just raised a $60 million series B. Osagie is now the head of mobile capture at Mecka, where he oversees an entire business unit and ensures delivery schedules are met. Ultimately, his goal remains the same: to build things people love and miss if they are gone.
Alexis Ashworth, MBA/13
Sprott Alumni Award: Positive Impact
Awarded to a Carleton University business graduate who has made a positive impact in local, regional or global communities through their professional, voluntary or philanthropic endeavours.
Alexis Ashworth has dedicated her career to creating positive change in people’s lives. Her career started on Canada’s East Coast where, at just 24, she was the executive director of Habitat for Humanity in Halifax. After four years, she followed her father’s footsteps to investment banking and joined the Business Development Bank of Canada as an Account Manager. But she missed the sense of purpose she felt at Habitat and discovered Sprott’s MBA, which at the time had a concentration in International Development Management. She quit her job at BDC, moved to Ottawa and completed her MBA in 2013. Upon graduating, she joined Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa as CEO for the next eight years, blending business leadership with a commitment to positive change, and in 2019, she was named one of Ottawa’s Top Forty Under 40. Her journey to her current role began a decade earlier when she discovered the powerful connection between nature and wellbeing while volunteering with World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Her passion for gardening reignited during the pandemic, reaffirming this connection. In 2021, Ashworth founded GrowTH Therapeutic Horticulture Learning Network, a social enterprise that expands access to therapeutic horticulture education for people working in care, health and community settings. Over the past five years, the organization has grown into an international learning network offering evidence-informed education, including a therapeutic horticulture certificate program, professional resources and a community of practitioners. Since its launch, GrowTH’s learning programs have supported more than 600 students in 33 countries, and the GrowTH network has grown to more than 275 professionals.
Jamie Heard, BCom/10
Sprott Alumni Award: Professional Achievement
Awarded to a Carleton University business degree graduate who has demonstrated outstanding achievement within their career or entrepreneurial endeavours.
Jamie Heard graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Commerce and a concentration in Finance. While at Sprott, he was a founding member of the Sprott Student Investment Fund. After graduating from Carleton, he went on to complete his Master of Finance at the University of Rochester. He is a CFA Charter holder and spent a decade investing and covering energy companies in banking, research and investing roles at Barclays, BMO, Citadel and Castleton. In 2019, he joined Tourmaline Oil where he is Vice President of Capital Markets and focuses on M&A, capital allocation, investors relations and strategy. In November, he will become Tourmaline’s Chief Financial Officer. This year’s recipient regularly shares his perspective on natural gas through industry panels, podcasts and X. He gives back to the next generation of finance professionals as a mentor to students on the Sprott Investment Fund. And last month, he was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.
