Wellbeing of refugee resettlement professionals
Principal Investigator: Linda Duxbury, Management
Project Title: Wellbeing of Government Employees Working in Refugee Settlement Programs
Funder: Calgary Catholic Immigration Society
This research project will not only help the federal government identify key work-related stressors faced by employees in the refugee resettlement (RS) sector, but also identify supports that could mitigate the effect of these stressors on worker wellbeing. Another goal is to determine the proportion of RS employees whose health (mental and/or physical) is currently at risk.
More broadly, the project will contribute to knowledge about work within this sector by generating data to
- examine the ability of RS employees to balance competing work and family demands
- identify how RS employees “cope” with stressors
- clarify how much the status quo (without additional supports) costs the government
- determine the role of gender, parental status, and job type in these areas
