Showcasing Carleton’s Technology Innovation Talent

On May 16, members of Ottawa’s tech sector enjoyed a morning filled with excitement, inspiration, and connection as projects and talented individuals from Carleton University’s Technology Innovation Management (TIM) student and alumni community were showcased.

The first annual TIM Showcase took place in the atrium of the Nicol Building, home to the Sprott School of Business and the TIM Program. Members of the business community attended and participated in the showcase event, particularly those interested in recruiting top talent, fostering innovation leadership, and accessing university resources for company growth.

Associate Professor Tony Bailetti and TIM Associate Professor Michael Weiss presented their research, “Managing Talent with AI.” The presentation focus was on the impact of AI within the HR hiring process and identification of talent for both hiring and in talent management. It was noted by Tony that the TIM students and community can leverage AI as a subject to address challenges in the evolving environment, making use of their knowledge of innovative technology backgrounds.

Following the presentation, accomplished TIM students who recently and successfully completed significant projects competed for a cash prize based on the impact of their project.

The Impact Project Awards were judged by Sprott School of Business Dean Dana Brown, Adjunct Professor in the TIM program and Sprott Ph.D. alumnus David Hudson, President of Nanobubble Control Systems John Fielding, Acting Director of Carleton’s Innovation Hub John Nelson, and CEO of Praxiem Walter Knitl.

Bhargavi Bellamkonda, a TIM program graduate, was named the winner of the Project Impact Award and a $1,000 cash prize for her work on developing and validating a value proposition framework for an early-stage cross-border venture called ShopInd, an app that connects newcomers with goods from home.

The TIM Showcase provides a bridge between the TIM program and the external community of employers, supporters, and collaborators. The event closed with a large networking-style career fair with companies seeking talent within the technology industry.
