Building a knowledge base for Black entrepreneurship in Canada
Principal Investigator: Gerald Grant, Information Systems
Project Title: Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub
Co-Principal Investigator: Rick Colbourne, Indigenous Leadership and Management
Funder: Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada
The Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH) is a critical pillar in the Black Entrepreneurship Program (BEP) funded by the Federal Government of Canada through Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada. The BEKH seeks to build a robust knowledge base for Black entrepreneurship in Canada. It focuses on closing the gaps in information, research, and statistics about Black entrepreneurs, the businesses they are engaged in, and their needs for business support, access to funding, and business and technical know-how to help their businesses grow sustainably into the future.
BEKH is joined by Dream Legacy Foundation and will create regional hubs across the country. Each hub will be led by a recognized post-secondary institution and will work collaboratively with community organizations to co-develop research on Black entrepreneurship, including a mapping of the Black entrepreneurship ecosystem.
