Two members of the Sprott School of Business community have been recognized by the Carleton University Student Association (CUSA) for their dedication and excellence at Carleton University.
Professor Howard Nemiroff is one of 10 recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award. This award is presented annually to faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding ability to impart knowledge, consult students and invoke enthusiasm and participation from their students.
“There is nothing more rewarding than helping young minds gain knowledge,” said Howard, who is Sprott’s Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, Associate Professor of Finance, and faculty advisor to the Sprott Student Investment Fund. “To receive positive feedback gives me the confidence in knowing that I am truly helping. Even more, receiving an award for teaching excellence is obviously humbling. It gives me the energy to continue to engage with students, continue to ensure currency of financial topics and continue to innovate in my delivery so that my students leave the classroom with the confidence that they can solve complex problems.”
Fourth year Bachelor of International Business student, Emily Kate Gray, is a recipient of the Honours Award for Excellence. This award is presented to 10 undergraduate students who have demonstrated a solid commitment to CUSA and the Carleton community, through participation and leadership in extracurricular activities.
“It was a true honour to be nominated for the Honours Excellence Award at Carleton University,” said Emily Kate. “I was really excited and felt very blessed!”
Over her four years at Carleton, Emily Kate has been heavily involved on campus through student clubs and extracurricular activities. Some of these include serving as the Marketing Director for the Sprott International Business Association, a Sprott Ambassador, a teaching assistant, a SOAR Leadership Conference presenter, and a summer orientation leader. This past year, Emily Kate was the Executive Director of the Campus Activity Board, which gave her the opportunity to lead a team and create fun and engaging programming for students across the university.
“While I was involved in a lot on campus, attending the Ontario University Fair in the fall of 2018 was one of the best experiences I had,” said Emily Kate. “I was able to talk about the amazing school that Carleton University is, and I helped high school students envision themselves as future Ravens. Thank you, Carleton and Sprott. You have been incredible, and have prepared me to step out into the world after university.”
