Alterna establishes two scholarships at Carleton University to support socially-minded business students

Two new scholarships will soon be available to undergraduate students in Carleton’s Sprott School of Business thanks to the generosity of the Alterna Financial Group. Alterna’s gift of $50,000, matched with a contribution of $50,000 by Carleton University, will be permanently endowed to create the Alterna Savings Scholarship and the Alterna Bank Scholarship.

“Alterna is proud to support students at Carleton’s Sprott School of Business who are inspired to better our communities through socially-minded business ventures. Concern for community and social leadership are at the heart of our organization. By supporting bright business students who are actively engaged in Enactus, an experiential learning platform that shares the same values as Alterna, we aim to help inspire these future leaders to pursue causes that address the social, environmental and economic issues that will make our communities more progressive and better places to live and work,” said Rob Paterson, Alterna President and Chief Executive Officer.

Each scholarship will be awarded annually in the amount of $2,000 to an undergraduate student enrolled in a bachelor’s program within the Sprott School of Business. Preference will be given to students involved in Enactus Carleton, a student organization dedicated to harnessing the power of entrepreneurship to create positive change in the community.

“We thank the Alterna Financial Group for their generosity in establishing the Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank Scholarships,” says Linda Schweitzer, Interim Dean, Sprott School of Business. “These awards will support Sprott business students in their studies and efforts to make a real difference in our community.”

The inaugural scholarships will be awarded in the 2019-2020 school year.
