In today’s global business environment, international experience is a competitive advantage for new graduates entering the workforce. Sprott students have access to a range of opportunities to experience foreign places, cultures and business practices.

Study Abroad

All Sprott students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in another culture and region of the world through study abroad. Through Carleton’s exchange agreements, students pay Carleton tuition and receive transfer credits for approved courses successfully completed while abroad.

Bachelor of Commerce students can opt to study abroad for up to two terms at any of Carleton’s 180+ partner institutions in over 30 countries. Learn more about international exchange opportunities through Carleton’s International Student Services Office.

All Bachelor of International Business students study abroad for a full academic year in third year to develop cross-cultural skills, cultural awareness and fluency in their chosen language. BIB students have the choice of more than 30 BIB partner institutions in 12 countries.

Other International Opportunities

In addition to studying abroad, Sprott students have many opportunities to gain international experience, such as international case competitions, class trips and leadership programs. Here are just a couple examples…

In the course Developing Creative Thinking (BUSI 3117), Sprott students work collaboratively with students in the Faculty of Engineering and Design, to develop, design and test water harvesting technologies for use by Maasai villagers in Tanzania. As part of this course, students travel to the Longido region in Tanzania to meet with local people, conduct research and test prototypes. Read more about the students’ experience in Tanzania.

Carleton students can access a host of opportunities to go abroad through the International Student Services Office. For example, Alternative Spring Break is a service-based learning program where students spend February reading week volunteering abroad.
