Commerce students Alice Seah and Alex Longval are on a mission to connect the Sprott community one person at a time. They recently launched “Humans of Sprott”, inspired by the popular HONY blog.
“I thought about it last year,” says Alice, who is in her fourth year with a concentration in Marketing. “I should do a project that brings everyone together. I was reading ‘Humans of New York’ and I really like meeting and talking to people. I thought what if I did that for Sprott?”
Time passed and a new academic year began. Alice thought, “I’m graduating in one semester and I really want to do something for Sprott before I graduate.”
So she asked Alex, a fourth year Marketing and Management student, if he would join her in the project. He agreed and Humans of Sprott was born.
Alice, who has a passion for photography, takes the portraits, while Alex lends his writing talents to the project. A unique element to Humans of Sprott is the inclusion of a personal motto with each story.
In addition to Sprott students, Alice and Alex plan to profile faculty and alumni as well. Presently, they are building up their bank of stories and testing timing to find the best time to publish them. They plan to move eventually to publishing a new profile daily.
“I love meeting people and I really like how people have different stories,” says Alice. “I really want people to understand one another. Maybe people will read about each other’s stories and be friends from there.
“Hopefully, it can get to the point where someone is walking down the hallway and says, ‘Oh I know you are a Sprott student because I saw you on Humans of Sprott.’”
