Sprott's case competition season kicks off

The inter-university case competition season has kicked off at the Sprott School of Business. Sprott Competes, the school’s case competition and training program, has selected the undergraduate student teams who will represent the Sprott School at national and international business case competitions this year.

“We were impressed with everyone that tried out for the Sprott Competes elite teams and were faced with hard decisions regarding team placements,” says Emily Gray, Sprott Competes program director and an accounting professor at Sprott. “The students chosen demonstrated during tryouts how well-rounded they were in regards to presentation skills, creative and critical thinking, strong academics, teamwork and leadership.”

Preliminary rounds are underway for several competitions and Sprott Competes’ season is off to a great start. It was recently announced that all four of Sprott’s teams participating in Queen’s University Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) have advanced to the final round, which takes place January 14 to 16, 2016.

Through Sprott Competes, students take part in intense training to prepare for competition under the guidance of faculty coaches and industry mentors.

To be eligible for a Sprott Competes team, students must have completed or be currently enrolled in BUSI 3800: Business Case Analysis. The course is hands-on, teaching students how to analyze a case and prepare viable solutions. Students also develop skills in teamwork, presentation and persuasion. The course is offered in both the Fall and Winter terms.

Stay tuned to follow our Sprott Competes teams throughout the season! Visit the Sprott Competes website to learn more about the case competition experience at Sprott.
