Prof. Troy Anderson receives Capital Educator Award

Troy Anderson, Assistant Professor of Management and Strategy at the Sprott School of Business, was awarded a 2015 Capital Educators Award for outstanding teaching achievement in the Ottawa region.  Troy was among 18 recipients from local elementary, secondary and post-secondary institutions.

Troy teaches two innovative courses at the undergraduate level.  His approach to teaching incorporates hands-on learning and develops skills in communication, critical thinking and creativity.

In Developing Creative Thinking (BUSI 3117), business students work collaboratively with students from other programs on an interdisciplinary project. In the Fall term, business and arts students collaborated to plan and deliver the Michaëlle Jean Foundation’s Power of the Arts conference. In the Winter term, students in business, industrial design and environmental engineering worked together to design sustainable, water harvesting technologies in Tanzania. At the start of the course, the students spent two weeks in Tanzania conducting research, meeting with residents and testing early design prototypes.

In Training and Development (BUSI 4111), fourth year business students are given the responsibility of teaching the second-year course Introduction of Organizational Behaviour (BUSI 2101). In pairs, students conduct weekly hour-and-a-half sessions of BUSI 2101, engage in frequent one-on-one interactions with students and administer coursework. Students also study the latest training and development methodology and design their own program related to a topic of interest.
