Apply now for Developing Creative Thinking course in 2014-15

Are you someone who thrives on creative challenges and new experiences?

Applications are now being accepted for BUSI 3117 Developing Creative Thinking for the 2014-15 academic year.

Following the success of the Fall 2013 interdisciplinary project focused on designing a new building for the Sprott School of Business, two exciting new projects are planned for the next academic year, one for Fall and one for Winter.

To enroll in either of these projects, you must apply by April 30, as advance planning is necessary.

Fall Term: Power of the Arts

In this project, you will be working directly with the Michaëlle Jean Foundation on the 2nd Annual Power of the Arts Forum, which will be held at Carleton in November 2014.

This is a national conference that focuses on improving the quality of life in communities across the country through the arts. Participants include artists, youth, policy makers, nonprofit managers, and business leaders.

As a member of the course team, your activities will potentially include:

Winter Term: From Buckets to Rain Barrels

In this project, Interdisciplinary teams composed of Industrial Design, Civil Engineering, and Business students will be working on proposals to address the problem of sustainable water harvesting in northern Tanzania.

The course will involve a two-week trip to the region during the last week of December and first week of January.

There will be some cost involved. Students should plan on up to $2,000 related to travel costs, but the actual amount will depend on the success of fundraising activities. Teams will be provided with a budget to cover other costs related to the project.

Registration for this course is for Winter term, but given the nature of the project there will be required preparatory activities during Fall term.

These activities may include problem research, possible fundraising activities, and cultural sensitivity workshops. You must commit to participating in these activities in order to register.

For more information, please visit the project’s page on Carleton’s Future Funder website.

Application Process

You must apply online in advance to participate in these projects. If you have at least third-year standing and BUSI 2101 or BUSI 2702 with a grade of C- or higher, you are encouraged to apply.

Space is limited, so you may apply to one or both of the projects to increase your chances.
