CGA Ontario provides more than $325,000 to Carleton University's Sprott School of Business
Ottawa, ON (November 15, 2013)—Today, the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University announced $327,500 in support from the Certified General Accountants of Ontario to provide real-world training opportunities for students, professional development opportunities for students and faculty, and fund a new event space at the Sprott School of Business. The event took place in the new CGA Ontario Room in the Sprott School.
CGA Ontario’s $290,000 financial contribution and $37,500 in-kind support will be used to:
• Increase the number of international case competitions students can attend, and support Sprott Competes, a program that provides top business students with intensive training in business case analysis and presentation skills, as well as networking opportunities.
• Build a central meeting and event space for the Sprott School that will be used by students, faculty and community partners.
• Provide specialized accounting education for students and professional development opportunities for faculty.
“The Sprott School of Business is proud to enter this partnership with CGA Ontario,” said Jerry Tomberlin, Dean of the Sprott School of Business at Carleton. “This investment allows more students to take part in international academic business competitions, as well as provides a much-needed conference space to host events that will connect students with business professionals in the community.”
Through the case competition experience, students develop skills that are highly valued by employers, such as integrative thinking, decision making, communication, teamwork and the ability to work under pressure. Students develop a real-world perspective that is typically gained through on-the-job experience through exposure to a variety of real-life business problems.
“We are proud to be able to support Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business,” said Doug Brooks, FCGA, CEO, CGA Ontario. “We believe students are the future of the accounting profession in Ontario so it’s essential to support them by investing in education, infrastructure, research and professional development.”
