Sprott students score second place at JDC Central
The Sprott School of Business proudly congratulates our team of 39 Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of International Business students who competed in JDC Central this past weekend. The team came home with eight trophies, including second place for School of the Year – the competition’s most prestigious award.
“It was an amazing experience and I’m super proud of everyone on our team,” says team co-captain Mark Featherstonhaugh. “As a team, we improved significantly from last year and everyone’s hard work and dedication was rewarded with our second-place overall finish.”
The team brought home more than trophies; they also brought home the competition itself.
The Sprott School of Business was named host of JDCC 2012. The team’s tremendous success at JDCC 2011 was supported by the coaching of Professor Rob Riordan and team sponsors The Stevens Company, the Sprott Business Students’ Society and Carleton University.
“Central [JDCC] 2011 was an important watermark for Team Sprott. Not only did we want to build on the success we enjoyed last year, but we wanted to make a statement to Ontario business schools about Sprott and Carleton. After all, we will host Central 2012 one year from now,” says Professor Riordan. “We clearly met the mark, scoring critical first-place finishes as organizing committee of the year, in the marketing case competition and the hotly-contested Sports competition. Earning second overall from among a very aggressive group of Ontario’s finest schools is source of great pride.
“I am grateful to Dean Jerry Tomberlin and Associate Dean Mike Hine for their unwavering support of the Central 2011 campaign. In addition, none of this would be even remotely possible without the astonishingly unselfish work of co-captains Mark Featherstonhaugh and Lauren Potts. Lauren and Mark worked unbelievably long hours over many months to make this massive campaign come together in a way that leaves me in awe. Finally, all the Sprott students who took part in the Sports, Social, Debate and Academic components and as God Parents are the real winners. I am so very proud of every Central 2011 team member.”
