Professor Hilary Becker appointed to board of Certified General Accountants of Canada
Professor Hilary Becker, CGA, has been appointed to the Certified General Accountants of Canada Board of Directors for the upcoming 2012-13 year.
“This is a very exciting time to be on the board given the recent changes in accounting resulting from the introduction of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and CGA Ontario’s decision to enter into merger discussions with the other two accounting bodies in Ontario,” says Dr. Becker. “The CGA supported me in my PhD studies through scholarships I received from both CGA Canada and CGA Ontario and this is an opportunity for me to give back to the designation. I look forward to being able to advance and promote the CGA designation as a member of the Board.”
Dr. Becker has a long history working with the CGA as the faculty representative to CGA Ontario for nearly 15 years. He has consulted with CGA Ontario in Blue Ocean Strategy and the Balanced Scorecard and has also taught Finance, Managerial Accounting and Accounting Theory in the CGA Executive Program. He authored the MA2 (Advanced Managerial Accounting) course for CGA both domestically and internationally, as well as various position papers for CGA Canada. He has also worked with CGA International on discussions to expand the CGA designation in the Caribbean.
This past year, Dr. Becker was appointed as the Ontario Representative to the National Education Taskforce for CGA Canada, which looked at strategically updating the CGA program of professional studies. He has also provided train-the-trainer seminar courses on Accounting Theory and Ethics to Accounting Professors from CGA China.
