Dr. Merridee Bujaki is a tenured, Full Professor in Accounting, with over two decades of highly influential work and numerous academic and professional publications in the accounting arena to date.

Dr. Bujaki’s research program is a very robust and eclectic mixture of projects that has an interdisciplinary approach, but with a strong accounting undertone. Her research program can be summarized as the “four Cs”: All her research falls within a Canadian framework, involves analyses of the use of language, visuals, and impression management in Canadian Corporations’ voluntary disclosures; Careers—primarily work on the careers of women in accounting; and work understanding Canals—specifically the accounting history of the construction of the Rideau Canal.

As part of a cross-Canada, interdisciplinary research team, Dr. Bujaki and colleagues were awarded a substantial SSHRC-CIHR grant in 2018 and are currently working on a large-scale research project: “Healthy Professionals/Knowledge Workers: Examining the Gendered Nature of Mental Health Issues, Leaves of Absence and Return to Work Experiences from a Comparative Perspective,” to address fundamental issues around mental health in knowledge professions, such as accounting. The results of the study will provide valuable information on employee well-being and offer up best practice policies and interventions for implementation.

Dr. Bujaki has a BA (Honours) Psychology, an MBA, and a PhD in Management. Dr. Bujaki was awarded the designation Fellow, Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA)—the highest designation bestowed upon a CPA within the accounting profession in recognition of career achievements, leadership, and community engagement.

Dr. Bujaki is a member of numerous professional associations and committees within the accounting profession and the Sprott School of Business and is a prominent advisor and leader on issues of mental health in the accounting profession, women in business and leadership roles, as well as a resident expert on the Rideau Canal—its accounting and history.

Dr. Bujaki is not currently accepting new MSc or PhD students.
