Emily Jones Joanisse is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, at the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University. She teaches courses in entrepreneurship and experiential learning, focusing on equipping students with practical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and real-world management experiences. In addition to her faculty role, Emily is the Director of the Sprott Social Impact Hub, where she guides student teams working on real-world projects with non-profit organizations and charities.

Emily is also the CEO and co-founder of Connected Canadians (CC), Canada’s largest digital inclusion charity focused on older adults. CC helps foster digital literacy skills, reduce isolation, and create meaningful intergenerational connections. The organization collaborates with senior-serving organizations and technology companies to provide one-on-one training, workshops, and customized employee training. Many CC mentors are newcomers to Canada who gain valuable experience while connecting with seniors in their communities. CC’s partners include Adobe Canada, Amazon Canada, Best Buy, TD, Capgemini, Deloitte, and the National Gallery of Canada. By 2030, CC aims to ensure all Canadian seniors have access to free technology training and support.

Emily’s leadership with Connected Canadians has been highlighted by CBC, CTV, Breakfast Television, Global News, and Readers’ Digest, where she has shared insights on digital inclusion and the organization’s mission to support seniors. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the CBC Trailblazer Award and the Sprott Good Business Award, and she has also been featured as a TEDx Speaker.

Emily is a proud Shad Carleton alumna and serves as a Program Director for Shad Anywhere, a national STEAM and entrepreneurship program designed for high-achieving high school students across Canada and beyond. As of 2025, Emily also serves as ICT Director on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Ottawa), where she contributes her expertise in information technology to support the organization’s mission.

Emily is currently a PhD candidate in Management, Information Systems at Carleton University. Her research explores digital inclusion, focusing on how the use of information systems can promote equality, redistribute power in decision-making groups, and empower non-traditional leaders.

Outside of her professional roles, Emily has worked as a DJ for over 20 years, performing in Canada and Europe. She has released a 7″ vinyl record on the Italian jazz label Schema Records.
