In Memoriam: Tony Bailetti
1948 – 2026
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Tony Bailetti on February 28. Tony served Carleton for 47 years and made a tremendous impact to the University, to Ottawa, and globally.

A professor, mentor and community builder, Tony created and led Carleton’s Technology Innovation Management (TIM) program, whose graduates have founded hundreds of companies over three decades. He was an active researcher who had many publications in the areas of technology entrepreneurship, development of products and services, sustainable growth of tech companies, commercialization, among others. He also served as director of the School of Commerce in the ‘80s. From 1988 to 1992, Tony worked for Bell Northern Research, while continuing to teach at Carleton.
Tony worked tirelessly to support entrepreneurs and grow Ottawa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through many initiatives, including Lead to Win, Born Global, Global Cybersecurity Resource, the TIM Review, as well as initiatives in Africa and India. Born and raised in Peru, Tony was passionate about giving back to the community and making a difference.
This story from 2019, entitled “Mr. Entrepreneurship”, encapsulates Tony’s journey and impact
