Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH) Receives Renewed Federal Support

Principal Investigator: Gerald Grant, Professor Emeritus, Academic Director, Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub
Project Title: Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub
Funder: Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada

The Government of Canada has renewed the Black Entrepreneurship Program (BEP) with a five-year, $189 million investment, as confirmed in the 2024 Fall Economic Statement. A core component of this renewed commitment is the Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH), which continues to advance research on Black entrepreneurship in Canada.

The BEKH is led out of the Office of the Vice-President, Research, Innovation, and International (OVPRII) at Carleton University, with Professor Gerald Grant of the Sprott School of Business serving as Academic Lead. The BEKH conducts research to identify systemic barriers to success and opportunities for growth for Black business owners and entrepreneurs across Canada, improving both the quality and availability of national data on Black entrepreneurship.

This 3-year, $4.5M renewed federal investment for the BEKH underscores the importance of rigorous, community-informed research in advancing economic equity and inclusion. The BEKH plays a pivotal role within the broader BEP ecosystem by ensuring that policy, programming, and investment decisions are grounded in evidence.
