The Top One Percent in Canada
Two graduates of Carleton University’s Master of Accounting program were named to the national CPA Honour Roll for placing in the top one per cent of more than 4,000 CPA candidates who successfully wrote the Common Final Exam (CFE).
Morgan Dekker, (BCom/21, MAcc/23), and Zoe Feng, (BCom/17, MAcc/23), join a prestigious group of 11 accounting graduates from Carleton’s Sprott School of Business to be named to the CPA Canada’s Honour Roll since 2018 – affirming Sprott’s legacy of excellence in accounting education.
“When I found out I placed in the top one per cent, I was overwhelmed with emotions and a sense of accomplishment,” said Morgan, a senior staff accountant at Welch LLP in Ottawa.
“The couple of months waiting for the results is nerve-racking so learning I made the honour roll provided a sense of relief and pride in the work I had accomplished and reinforced all the effort that I had put into both my educational and professional journey up to this point.”
Morgan attributes her success on the CFE to the support she received from her MAcc classmates. She and her study group put in many hours completing practice tests, collectively problem solving and cross-checking solutions with each other.
“The MAcc provides an in-depth teaching of the material and makes a variety of resources available. Working with other motivated peers provided valuable insights and perspectives to help gain an understanding of the accounting principles and techniques needed.”
She also valued the MAcc faculty for their wide range of knowledge and their dedication to supporting their students.
“There were many instances in which I received valuable and extremely thorough responses and advice to questions. Not only do you have a group of like-minded peers but you have the knowledge of the faculty behind you as well.”
Sprott’s Master of Accounting is accredited by CPA Ontario. Graduates of the program are exempt from the CPA Professional Education Program and proceed directly to the Common Final Exam. Applications for May 2024 are now being accepted.
