Sprott MBA Shanghai students put to the challenge in three-day desert race
Six Carleton University students from the Sprott MBA program in Shanghai raced through the Tengger Desert of Inner Mongolia in the 10th annual Asia-Pacific Business Schools Desert Challenge. The grueling three-day race covered a total of 70 km from May 1 to 3, 2021.
The Asia-Pacific Business School Desert Challenge is the top business school outdoor event in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the years, it has attracted teams of MBA students and alumni from more than 90 top business schools from around the world.
The event embodies the challenge and adventurous spirit of modern business leaders. Over the course of three days, participants competed in a 70 km race through the desert, trekking through extreme heat, windy and dry conditions. To complete the race, participants need to keep challenging themselves and make self-adjustments under harsh conditions. More importantly, as a team competition, the event requires participants to build a team spirit and actively collaborate with each other.
This year, Sprott MBA Shanghai students – Meng Wang, Enwen Wang, Daqing Gong, Meiqing Shi, Danyang Zhou, and Qi Zhou – participated in this challenge on a team with students and alumni from Donghua University, Carleton’s MBA partner institute in Shanghai. All 19 team members successfully completed the desert race.
Team captain Hao Zhang organized the team, noting that he was deeply impressed by the knowledge, persistence and team spirit that the students showed during the desert challenge.
“The Carleton MBA students successfully completed their goals in each day. Moreover, they volunteered to take care of the students who sprained their ankles on the first day. Their courage and team spirit made me so touched. I really appreciate that,” said Hao.
The Sprott School of Business has been delivering Carleton University’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program in Shanghai, in collaboration with the Glorious Sun School of Business and Management at Donghua University since 2005.
