Alumnus Bijan Toufighi earns place on national honour roll for CPA accounting exam
Alumnus Bijan Toufighi (BCom/12) has made the prestigious Honour Roll of the Chartered Professional Accountants 2013 Uniform Exam (UFE), which is considered to be one of the world’s most challenging professional entry exams. Toufighi placed in the top 54 of 3,032 individuals who successfully wrote the UFE.
Toufighi, who works for Deloitte LLP in Toronto, graduated in 2012 with Highest Honours from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a concentration in Accounting and a minor in Economics.
“I would like to thank the Sprott School of Business for its support during my university career, as the school truly helped me be prepared for the UFE,” says Toufighi. “Sprott has great professors and prepares students for the technical material on the exams.”
“What truly makes Sprott’s accounting program great are the opportunities it offers outside the classroom,” adds Toufighi. “I took on several leadership roles on campus, and was given the opportunity to act as a teaching assistant for multiple classes. These extra-curriculars helped to increase my confidence and my ability to manage my time, which I believe are two of the most important skills for the UFE and other professional exams.”
During his time at Sprott, Toufighi served as President of the Carleton chapter of Students In Free Enterprise (now called Enactus) and received the 2011 Teaching Assistant Excellence Award.
The UFE, written in September, is a national three-day evaluation that assesses competencies necessary for Chartered Professional Accountants including essential knowledge, professional judgment, ethics and the ability to communicate. The UFE is an important component of the CPA qualification program, which includes prescribed education, practical experience and examination requirements.
