This weekend I had the opportunity to cover a lot of Mexican territory! Two of my roommates and a Mexican friend rented a car and got out of the city to do some exploring.
On Saturday, we went to a small mining town in the mountains called Real de Catorce. It is a very touristic town and I would recommend it to anyone! We first arrived and walked through a 2 kilometre tunnel to get to the village.

Once we were actually in the town, we hired a driver to take us through the mountains on top of a truck. I have to admit, I was pretty scared but the views were worth it.
When we returned we went horseback riding through the town and we got to see a silver mine. I have only been horseback riding once before in my life and I really enjoyed it. I asked our guide to take a picture of us and this is what we got:
The next day we went searching for 'cascadas' - waterfalls. We asked the locals where the best places were and we ended up swimming in Tamasopo. It felt like a whole different Mexico- we were low in the mountains and it was humid.
While this place was beautiful, we wanted to see a more impressive cascada, so we went to "Puente de Dios" or "God's Bridge". This was the most amazing place I've ever seen! It looked like a whole different world. We walked down over 300 steps and swam underneath waterfalls and through a cave. I didn't bring my camera down since we were in the water, but just check out these images to get an idea of what it was like!
I had such a good weekend and it was really nice to get out of the city for a while. Mexico is really amazing when you think of all the different things you can do here; from visiting quaint, touristic towns to swimming in your own private lagoon. All of the locals that we asked for help and advice were really kind and our trip ran smoothly. There is a quote that I think is relevant for this weekend:
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone" - Neale Donald Walsch.
Whether it be peering over the side of a mountain to see if any other trucks didn't make it and are at the bottom or holding on to a rope so the current from a waterfall doesn't pull you away, pushing your limits makes for an exhilarating experience while you are abroad!
