Sprott professors win Faculty Graduate Mentoring Award
The Sprott School of Business congratulates Professors Louise Heslop and Vinod Kumar who are the inaugural recipients of the Graduate Mentoring Award for Faculty.
Carleton University’s Graduate Mentoring Awards were established to recognize up to ten faculty members annually who have made outstanding contributions to the supervision and research mentorship of graduate students. The winners have been chosen for their demonstrated ability to render exceptional mentoring services and for supporting and fostering transformational effects on the careers of their graduate students.
In order to be considered for this award, faculty must have been nominated by other faculty members or graduate students. However, the nomination was also endorsed by the Chair or Director of the academic unit in which the supervision and mentorship has occurred.
The Graduate Mentoring Awards are jointly presented by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs and the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International). The 2010 winners will receive their award at a reception on Nov. 30.

“He was a true mentor; he took the time to understand, help and support his graduate students in all aspects of their academic and career development, as well as the day to day challenges they encounter.”
