What are the Sprott Professional Programs?
The Sprott School of Business is Faculty of Business at Carleton University, located in Ottawa, Ontario. The Professional Programs are a division of the Sprott School of Business and feature a number of adult education business workshops. The programs range in subject matter from Project Management, Human Resources Management and Business Analysis to Public Sector Marketing, Business Communication and General Management Skills. We offer 2-5 day workshops, as well as 12-18 day programs.
Who enrolls in these programs?
Our courses are all open-enrolment, which means anyone can register and attend. Situated in the National Capital Region, the Sprott Professional Programs draw a lot of clientele from various government agencies, non-profit organizations and private sector companies based in the Ottawa area. The programs have been designed with working professionals in mind – they feature practical, real world lessons so you can implement skills into the workplace immediately, and the schedules are planned to be unobtrusive to your career.
Why would I take a professional development course?
Most of our participants are working people who either want to become professionally designated in order to further their careers, or because their employer wants them to have it. Other people are working in positions but don’t necessarily have an educational background in that field, and want to take some courses to fill in any gaps they have in their business knowledge.
Several of our programs help people prepare for various professional qualification exams, such as the Certified Human Resources Professional, the Business Analyst Professional and the Project Management Professional designations.
What if I start a program and can no longer attend?
We have a cancellation and attendance policy above.
What are the fees for these programs, and are they covered by OSAP?
The programs vary in price. You can find out the individual costs of the programs by going to the web pages of each. Please note that some programs require textbooks or other materials which must be purchased separately by the course participant.
OSAP will not cover the programs fees because these are non-academic courses and do not meet OSAP requirements for funding. Carleton University does not offer any scholarships or bursaries for the Sprott Professional Programs.
Some participants receive financial support from their employer which covers the cost of the program, and other participants cover the cost of the fees themselves. All course fees must be paid prior to the start date of the registered program.
How do I register?
You can register through our website by clicking on the link that reads “Click Here to Register“, and is located at the top of each course description web page. Our online registration is handled through a secure, third-party company and you can pay with a Visa or Mastercard. Alternatively, you can call our office at 613-520-3486 and register over the phone. If your employer is paying for the course fees, please print the registration form and fax it to us with a signed training form or purchase order at 613-520-7507 so that we can send you an invoice.
Where is the Sprott School of Business?
The Sprott School of Business is located in Ottawa, Ontario Canada, on the Carleton University campus in Dunton Tower. Click here for a campus map.
All courses are held in Dunton Tower, unless otherwise notified, and a confirmation email is sent out to all participants a few weeks before the course start date to let you know exactly where the course will be located. Our offices are on the third floor of Dunton Tower, in room 312.
Can these courses be transferred to a degree program at Carleton, or another university?
No. The Sprott Professional Programs are non-academic, open-enrolment courses, which means there is no formal university application process in order to attend. With the exception of the Human Resources Certificate, there are no grades or transcripts assigned at the end of a course or program, so they would not be considered for advance standing or transfer credit to an academic program. Grades assigned for the Human Resources Certificate are strictly for the purpose of professional designation qualifications and these courses cannot be transferred to an academic program.
