Jessica is a third-year Bachelor of International Business (BIB) student in the French language stream. She is studying at Université Jean Monnet in Saint-Etienne, France. (All students in the BIB program are required to study abroad for their third year at one of our partner institutions.)
Introduce yourself! Tell us a little bit about your goals and interests:
Hey! I’m Jess. I’ve lived in the same house since the day I was born and I am so ready to face the world! I have never been more excited for anything in my entire life – how could anything compare to moving to France for a year?! I’ve been interested in the business side of things since I started high school, and I hope to someday work for the Canadian government in Human Resources, or as a private recruitment officer.
Why did you choose your language?
I chose to study French because it’s such a beautiful language. I learned some French in elementary and high school and I figured that I should master this language before moving onto another!
Have you ever travelled overseas before? If so, where?
I have travelled to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, which are just off the coast of Venezuela, and are in the Caribbean. That’s where my family is from!
What 3 things MUST you take with you while abroad?
I have to take my favourite book, White Fang, my laptop, and my guitar!
What are you most looking forward to?
I most definitely cannot pick just one thing that I’m looking forward to. Culturally, I’m looking forward to experiencing French cuisine, in all its glory. Personally, I’m looking forward to becoming more independent. Socially, I’m looking forward to building lifelong friendships all over the world!
