Alessandra (Ali) Brasier is a third-year Bachelor of International Business (BIB) student in the Spanish language stream. Ali is studying at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) in Madrid, Spain. (All students in the BIB program are required to study abroad for their third year at one of our partner institutions.)Introduce yourself! Tell us a little bit about your goals and interests:
Goals: To be happy and successful and rule the world (if that isn't too much to ask.) I want to make this year count, live life to the fullest and become fluent in the Spanish.
Interests: travelling, food, trying new things, learning about new cultures and how to adapt to every situation, learning to be more dependent on myself, grow as a person (maybe get taller too but that might be a stretch...get it, stretch?)
Why did you choose your language?I chose Spanish because I wanted the most options as to which country I could travel to. My mom's side is Italian and Spanish was the closest language. Plus, Spanish is just a sexy language.Have you ever traveled overseas before? If so, where?I've been to Italy with my family twice. I love travelling and I think airplanes are super cool. What 3 things MUST you take with you while abroad?Journal- track what you do and where you go because you'll look back one day and be glad that you can have these things to read when you've forgotten everything from old age!Good pair of walking/running shoes- you're going to go a lot of places on foot and the worst thing in the world is a sore body.Super cheesy, but a good attitude! For multiple reasons; you'll make more friends, locals will tolerate your lack of street knowledge, the bad things won't seem as bad. Lastly, but most importantly, you'll thank yourself one day that you didn't let your anger or sadness over leaving your family and friends get in the way of you having the time of your life. What are you most looking forward to?The food! The heat however...yikes!
