In addition to his academic work in Canada, he serves as Secretary-General of the International Council for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and treasurer of ICOMOS Canada. He is a past president of the ICOMOS Scientific Committee on Heritage Documentation (CIPA). Professor Santana has collaborated with The Getty Conservation Institute, UNESCO and other partners on many international projects in heritage documentation.
