NYC: Ottawa Panel Recap
Navigating Your Career, Sprott’s alumni panel and networking event series, is travelling across Canada to connect Sprott alumni. The second Navigating Your Career event took place in Ottawa on Tuesday Sept. 11, during the week-long Carleton Homecoming celebration. Sprott alumni, students and staff gathered Sidedoor Restaurant in the market for an alumni panel and networking opportunity. The four alumni panelists were: Arlene Anderson (BCom/81), President and Owner, SAM BAT; Greg Richardson (BCom/97), Chief Operating Officer, Camelot Golf & Country Club; Glen Wigney (BCom/85), Director, Governance Services, Five Continents Partners Ltd; and Linda Schweitzer (PhD/05), Interim Dean, Sprott School of Business.
A key theme of the night was that it is important to be open to opportunities and seize them when they present themselves. Panelists discussed some of the risks they had taken and the changes in the direction of their career paths. As panelist Linda Schweitzer said, “A career is a series of successive opportunities seized.”
Guests were invited to ask panelists their own questions during a networking session that followed. Over drinks and appetizers, alumni and students had the opportunity to build their Sprott network in Ottawa and learn from each other’s experiences.
Reem Sadeddin, BIB/12, described the event as an “evening with an opportunity to reconnect with your fellow peers in the industry.”
Navigating Your Career—Toronto kicked off this series of events in the spring. Keep an eye out for the Navigating Your Career events in Calgary and Vancouver later this year.
