Biography


As Director of Economic Development and Innovation, Saad Bashir is responsible for collaborating with a variety of economic development stakeholders to facilitate the best possible business environment in Ottawa.

His mandate includes investment attraction, local business expansion, tourism development, major events attraction and economic research. He regularly advises the Mayor and Council on the strategic and economic impacts of major projects. Recent accomplishment includes creation of an external economic development agency called ‘Invest Ottawa’ and Major Events Attractions Office with Ottawa Tourism.  Saad is overseeing many other work plan items in the Department of Economic Development and Innovation, including the planning for Ottawa 2017 celebrations for Canada’s 150th Anniversary, as well as the activities of Ottawa’s 18 business improvement areas (BIAs).

He has held previous senior positions with organizations including Citibank (Europe/Asia), Flextronics (Calgary) Canadian Pacific (Toronto), Nortel Networks (USA) and Calgary Economic Development (Calgary). His expertise involves business development, strategic planning, financial analysis and government relations.

Saad holds a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree from Queen’s University. He is also a current board member of Ottawa Tourism.
