Dr. Diane Isabelle

Assistant Professor, Global Entrepreneurship

Diane A. Isabelle is an Assistant Professor of Global Entrepreneurship at Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. She has extensive professional experience in the private, government and academic sectors. She holds a PhD in management with a focus on innovation, an MBA and an engineering degree. 

Prior to joining academia in 2011, she held several senior executive roles at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), the Government of Canada’s premier research and technology organisation, including Executive Director to the Vice-President Physical Science, and, for many years an Industrial Technology Advisor for NRC-Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), supporting Canadian small firms with the strategic use of innovation and business advice to compete on the global scene. She started her career as a project engineer for several multinational firms. 

She currently teaches entrepreneurship and international business. She applies novel pedagogical approaches to teaching entrepreneurship, such as online gamified platforms to provide students with real-life entrepreneurial experience.  She also teaches international business abroad in Sprott’s joint MBA programs with foreign universities in China and Colombia.

Selected areas of expertise include: techno-entrepreneurship, innovation, triple-helix collaboration; strategic planning and foresight; Science, Technology & Innovation policy.

Her current research areas include: international collaborations, competitiveness, business incubators and accelerators, innovation and entrepreneurship policies, student and immigrant entrepreneurship, and other topics related to innovation and technoentrepreneurship within a global context. She publishes in the field of innovation, techno-entrepreneurship and international business.
